SCENE 01 / COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

Communication Systems

Professional on-set communication equipment keeping your production coordinated and running smoothly.

Scroll

Production communication gear keeps every department in sync across sets, stages, and remote locations. Professional intercom systems, walkie-talkies, and wireless networks let directors, assistant directors, camera, sound, and production management talk in real time through the shooting day.

We supply and configure communication packages scaled to your crew size and how complex your locations are. Our team plans the channels, hands out the gear, and sets up the technical side, so your departments stay connected from the first call to wrap each day.

On Location

On-set comms tuned to Korea's locations and spectrum

Production communication in South Korea moves through dense, layered settings, from the steel-and-glass canyons of Yeouido and Gangnam to the thick masonry of Joseon-era palaces and the long granite ridgelines of Seoraksan and Jirisan. Our packages start with Motorola digital handsets and a Clear-Com or Riedel intercom backbone, set up for the channel plan your assistant directors actually need.

That setup includes surveillance earpieces for first ADs, director headsets for video village, and IFB feeds for talent, all rolled out as one package. We licence the radio range through MSIT for the length of your shoot and brief the production manager on the channel map. The handsets ship pre-programmed, so they work the moment the first call sheet is read.

Coverage planning matters more in Korea than producers often expect. Repeaters placed around Namsan, Bukhansan, and the broadcast towers of Sangam DMC keep multi-unit teams talking across central Seoul. Long-range units and remote repeaters then carry the signal across the open coast at Yangyang or the volcanic terrain on Jeju.

We survey locations before prep and pre-test antenna spots for historic-site shoots, where venue rules limit permanent fixings. Our crew arrives with charged spares, a runner for battery swaps, and an on-call technician for the whole shoot. The same package scales from a six-person commercial unit in Seongsu-dong to a feature crew of two hundred working across Busan, Daegu, and Jeju on a single frequency map.

Our rental desk stocks the kit deep enough to cover large Korean drama and feature units. Motorola digital handsets, surveillance earpieces, and noise-cancelling headsets sit alongside Clear-Com and Riedel beltpacks, base stations, and IFB transmitters for talent. We carry waterproof units for Han River and Jeju coast work, repeaters for mountain and tunnel coverage, and multi-zone gear for stunt and crowd control. Channel counts and spare ratios are sized to the call sheet, so each department holds the units it needs with backups on the cart.

Korean mains run at 220V and 60Hz, so every charger and base station we ship is set for local power, with adapters for visiting kit. We quote comms packages in Korean Won with the 10 percent VAT itemised, and weekly rates that suit the long schedules drama series run. The MSIT spectrum licence and frequency planning are folded into the booking, and qualifying foreign productions can route comms rental through a KOFIC incentive claim with our team keeping the records in order.

FAQ

Production Communication Expertise

What communication systems do you provide?

We supply complete communication setups, including two-way radios (Motorola digital and analog), production headsets, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, IFB feeds for talent, and specialty coordination systems. The gear ranges from basic walkie-talkies all the way up to complete broadcast intercom rigs.

How many radios do I need for my production?

How many radios you need depends on crew size and how complex the shoot is. A typical feature uses 30-80 radios to cover every department. Our team reviews your needs and suggests the right counts, with backup units included. If you need more gear during production, we can add it.

Can you provide coverage in remote locations?

Yes. For tough locations, we build systems around repeaters, long-range gear, and multi-site planning. When we can, our team surveys the location first to spot coverage problems and put the right fix in place.

Do you handle frequency licensing in South Korea?

We handle all frequency licensing with the Korean authorities (ANFR). This covers short-term production licenses, frequency planning, and the compliance records you need. Lead time varies by location and by what spectrum is free.

What about intercom systems for video village?

We supply complete video village communication, including director-to-set comms, camera talkback, script supervisor links, and department coordination. The systems can tie into wireless video, so you get full monitoring and communication in one setup.

How do you handle equipment for multiple units?

For multi-unit shoots, we build communication plans that give each unit its own channels, with shared frequencies for key staff and clear cross-unit coordination. Every unit gets a complete gear package.

Productions in South Korea that need this often pair it with Lighting Equipment Rental, Data Management Systems, and Monitoring Equipment Rental for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Wireless Microphone Systems and Monitor & Video Village.
