SCENE 01 / SOUND DESIGN

Sound Design

Creative sound design that brings stories to life through immersive audio landscapes and compelling sonic experiences.

Scroll

Sound design builds the full sonic world of a production. Designers pick, create, and layer audio elements to shape it. They craft atmospheric textures, impact effects, transitions, and site-level soundscapes. These sounds pull audiences into the story's world and raise the emotional impact of each scene.

We connect you with sound designers who bring creative vision and tech skill to your audio. Our team runs the whole process, from the first spotting sessions through final delivery. We make sure your production's sonic identity stands out, draws people in, and moves them.

      On Location

Original sound design rooted in Korean cinema

Sound design for projects shot in South Korea draws on a community of designers based around Seoul's The DMC hub. These are the post houses that built the sonic identity of today's Korean cinema: Live Tone Studio (whose designers shaped the soundtracks of Bong Joon-ho's features), Sound Tribe Korea, Tigertail Sound and Mediaslash.

Our team sets up spotting sessions early and scopes the sonic palette against the visuals. The dense urban layering for a Seoul-set crime drama reads very differently from the wind, water and stone textures of a feature shot along the Jeolla coastline or up in the Seoraksan peaks. Designers build atmospheres, impact effects, transitions and creature work to picture, recording fresh source material on location wherever the budget allows: DMZ ambience, Busan harbour activity, classic market sound. They then layer it with synthesis and library material in Pro Tools HDX sessions.

The work covers every genre the Korean industry exports: sci-fi, horror, action thriller, period drama, K-drama serial. Our designers move easily between cinematic conventions and the looser, bolder palette that streaming originals invite. We share works-in-progress at agreed milestones, so directors and editors can weigh in early on key sonic choices before time goes into finishing each element.

We take picture changes right through to final mix when the schedule calls for it. Mix-ready sessions reach the dub stage sorted into clearly named stems: atmospheres, hard effects, designed elements, transitions. Each one comes with full session notes, so the supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer can fold it in without extra translation work. Global clients can join reviews from afar through Source-Connect equivalents.

The design rooms run a consistent toolset, so a session moves cleanly toward the mix. Designers build in Pro Tools HDX at the project's sample rate and bit depth, which lets the dub stage open the work with no conversion. Original source material is recorded at high resolution and edited alongside synthesis and library cues on the same timeline. Elements are panned in surround from the start, so the spatial intent the designer hears carries through to the 5.1 or Atmos mix rather than being rebuilt later.

Finished sound design is shaped for the route each project takes. For a theatrical feature the designed stems feed the surround and Atmos mix on the dub stage. For KBS, MBC, SBS, or JTBC broadcast and for Netflix, Disney+, or Coupang Play originals, every effect and atmosphere sits inside the M&E pass, so a foreign-language version keeps the full sonic world. We name the stems by type and scene, ship session notes with them, and archive the source recordings in-country for any later cut or re-version.

      FAQ

      Frequently Asked Questions

What is sound design and why is it important?

Sound design is the craft of building audio that doesn't exist in the production recordings. This ranges from ambient atmospheres and site-level sounds to wild effects and creature voices. Great sound design makes worlds feel real and lifts emotion. It creates cinematic moments that audiences feel as much as hear.

Do you create original sounds or use libraries?

We use both. Our sound designers record and synthesize original sounds for the unique elements that define your production, and they draw on premium sound libraries to save time. Each project gets a tailored sonic palette built around its own creative needs.

Can you design sounds for specific genres like sci-fi or horror?

Yes, we can. Our team has deep experience across all genres, including science fiction, horror, fantasy, action, drama, and documentary. We know the sonic conventions and audience hopes that come with each one, and we bring a fresh creative angle to every project.

How do you work with directors and editors?

We work closely with you the whole way. Most jobs open with spotting sessions to grasp your vision, then we share works-in-progress for feedback and refine the sounds to your direction. Our team can work to picture lock or take editorial changes in stride as your project evolves.

Productions in South Korea that need this often pair it with Foley Recording Services, Dialogue Editing & ADR Services, and 5.1 Surround Mixing Services for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Interview & Dialogue Editing and Color Grading Services.
