Sound Design

Here is how this works in practice. Sound design for projects shot in South Korea draws on a community of designers anchored around Seoul's The DMC hub and the post houses that built the sonic identity of today's Korean cinema. Live Tone Studio (whose designers shaped the soundtracks of Bong Joon-ho's features), Sound Tribe Korea, Tigertail Sound and Mediaslash.

Here is the short of it. Our team sets up spotting sessions early, scoping the project's sonic palette against the visual context: the dense urban layering needed for a Seoul-set crime drama reads very differently from the wind, water and stone textures needed for a feature shot along the Jeolla coastline or up in the Seoraksan peaks. Designers build atmospheres, impact effects, transitions and creature work to picture, recording first source material on location wherever the budget permits. DMZ ambience, Busan harbour activity, classic market sound — and layering it with synthesis and library material in Pro Tools HDX sessions.

Here is the breakdown. The work covers every genre the Korean industry exports. Sci-fi, horror, action thriller, period drama, K-drama serial. And our designers move fluently between cinematic conventions and the looser, more experimental palette that streaming originals invite. We share works-in-progress at agreed milestones so directors and editors can feed back early on key sonic decisions before time is spent finishing every element.

We fit picture changes through to final mix when the schedule demands it. Mix-ready sessions arrive at the dub stage ordered into clearly named stems. Atmospheres, hard effects, designed elements, transitions — with full session records, ready for the watching sound editor and re-recording mixer to integrate without translation overhead.
